Jean-Paul Sartre: The Road to Freedom

The late Jean-Paul Sartre is arguably one of the best known philosophers of the twentieth century. His indefatigable pursuit of philosophical reflection, literary creativity and, in the second half of his life, active political commitment, gained him worldwide renown, if not admiration. He is commonly considered as one of the leading figures of Existentialist philosophy, and whose writings set the tone for occidental intellectual life in the decade immediately following the Second World War. A student of Edmund Husserl and his phenomenology, Sartre brought a refreshingly startling philosophical perspective on contemporary life, society and being.

I am looking for sites mostly (French or English). Also any key words would be nice.
Specifically, I am looking for insight into Sartre’s political stances, his motives behind those stances, and (significant) contributions to politics of the 20th century.

Merci.

JPS is much under-rated in some quarters of philo. I think he deserves much more closer attention.

Why did the chicken cross the Road ?
Jean-Paul Sartre: (1) In order to act in good faith and be true to itself, the chicken found it necessary to cross the road
(2) To impose a meaning upon her accidental existence.
(3) Because there was NO EXIT.

I am struggling to read ‘Critique of Dialectical Reason’. Can anyone reflect on his major arguments in ‘Critique of Dialectical Reason’?

Thank you.

Good post. I would like to find a list of quotes by philosophers (particularly Sartre) that contains both the original language and the English translation all in one place. Can anyone help?

How can existentialism respond to the critique that it is ego-centric?
